The event, organized in collaboration with the Thomas Stephens Konknni Kendr and Ethernet Xpress Pvt. Ltd., brought together history and heritage in a moving celebration of unity and inspiration.
Who is Libia Lobo Sardesai?
ibia Lobo Sardesai (born 1924 in Porvorim, Goa) is one of the most respected figures in Goa’s freedom struggle. She co-founded the underground radio station Voice of Freedom (Goenche Sadvonecho Awaz), which broadcasted vital information and patriotic messages during Portuguese rule, keeping the flame of liberation alive.
On 19 December 1961, Libia made history when she announced Goa’s freedom from aboard an Indian Air Force plane — a moment etched forever in the memory of Goans. Post-liberation, she went on to become Goa’s first female lawyer and the state’s first Director of Tourism, shaping Goa’s cultural and civic identity.
Her lifelong contributions were recently recognized with the Padma Shri Award in 2025, one of India’s highest civilian honors. Today, she stands as a symbol of courage, inspiration, and national pride.
