Ethernet Xpress Foundation proudly celebrated the centenary of Dr. Manohar Rai Sardessai, fondly remembered as Lok-Kavi (the People’s Poet), for his unparalleled contributions to Konkani literature and Goan identity. The tribute, held in collaboration with the Thomas Stephens Konknni Kendr and Ethernet Xpress Pvt. Ltd., honored a visionary poet, scholar, and cultural torchbearer who continues to inspire generations.

Who is Dr. Manohar Rai Sardessai?

Dr. Manohar Rai Sardessai (1925–2006) was one of Goa’s most celebrated poets, writers, and scholars, often hailed as the “Prince of Konkani Poets.” With a doctorate from the Sorbonne, Paris, he modernized Konkani poetry and nurtured its literary growth.

He authored over 25 books, including Pissolim, which won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1980. Honored internationally, he also received the Chevalier de l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques from the French government. Beyond poetry, he edited the first Konkani Encyclopedia and served as president of the Konkani Bhasha Mandal, leaving behind a legacy that shaped both language and culture in Goa.
